I only depend on my smart cell phone when I'm out of the house. Qualifying this, at home I receive GV phone calls over an Obi 200 analog telephone adapter, and any texts via internet to the GV app with Wi-Fi. I rely on GV in a forwarding manner over the cellular-switched network for both calls and the few SMS & MMS texts I get. I'm in almost an identical position to you, Solomon960. All call transcripts populate via the default answering service with GV - I think all I did was record my name and was good to go. I don't pay for cell data - I'm more of a basic 'call and text' consumer. I enjoy the call transcripts and texts being available online at GV, which I used more than my phone. Desiring a cost-effective long-term fix, I would prefer the latter, but am too naïve to know what options exist. Learning of this development, I now must either give out my Tracfone number (and keep it energized!) - which I intend to drop once the airtime is spent in 12 months - or adopt an entire new system.
